The XMM-Newton Observation of the Dwarf Nova EY Cyg and the Secondary Star
Abstract
We present the X-ray spectral and temporal analysis of dwarf nova EY Cyg (45 ksec) using the XMM-Newton Observatory archival data obtained in quiescence. We find orbital modulations inthe X-rays. We simultaneously fitted EPIC pn, MOS1 and MOS2 data using a modelfor interstellar absorption (tbabs) and a multi-temperature plasma emissionmodel (CEVMKL) which yields a maximum temperature kTmax of 15.0 keV with an unabsorbed X-ray flux and luminosity in the 0.1 to 50.0 keV energy band of 2.0x10^{-12} erg cm^-2 s^-1and 2x10^{31} erg s^{-1}, respectively. The fit shows an excess in the soft energies which canonlt be modeled using a MEKAL model at 3sigma significance with a temperature of 0.1 keV with an unabsorbed X-rayluminosity of 1.5x10^{30} erg s^{-1}. This confirms that the secondary is a K-type star as was suggested.
